Unusual Indigo & White Tied Patchwork Antique Quilt
Item #B-2301 $450
We've had thousands
of quilts over the years, but this Patchwork quilt is one of the more unusual
examples. The maker machine pieced a white stars on Indigo print and
a bright white cotton in a typical patchwork design with 2" squares, then added
a large X and 4 smaller X's using white fabric folded to 1/4" wide and machine
applied in the center of the quilt. Using a white floral print on Indigo
for the borders, she also machine applied 1/4" wide pieces on the border in
keeping with the theme, and added 9 patch corners using the star print and
white. The quilt measures 74" x 74", has a medium weight cotton batting, a
hand applied binding (with a few nips), and a tiny brown star on white for the
back. The quilt is tied with white cotton floss at the corner of each
piece and at each crossing on the border. PROFESSIONALLY HAND
LAUNDERED, we found no rips, tears, stains or odors.
CLEAN, GRAPHIC & VERY UNUSUAL!!

Indigo Ocean Waves Antique Quilt w/Arrow Borders
Item #B-2063 SOLD!!

On first look, this 1870's Ocean Waves quilt
looks like others from the same period, until you look at the folky
arrow borders! HAND PIECED, the maker used either a
tiny white dot on dark Indigo blue or a bright white cotton for the 1-3/4"
squares, with the Indigo fabric cut on angle for the arrow pieces, aligning the
dots to also make arrows! The hand applied binding is a different white dot on
Indigo print (less dots). Measuring a generous 90" x 90", it has a very thin
cotton batting with seed fragments and a white back. HAND QUILTED
with Chevron quilting across the pieces, small teacup or pumpkin
seed quilting on the white background, and triple angle quilting across the
borders @ 9 very neat and tiny stitches per inch counting just one side.
PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED FOR THE FIRST TIME, we
found just one small dye misprint (1/4", circled in red in photos), and a couple
of Indigo pieces with fade, which could also be a dye misprint as fabric was
precious in those days and every scrap was used. All dye misprints are in the
same area of the quilt. A CLEAN, CRISP & GRAPHIC INDIGO QUILT!!
(Note: the photo of the arrow border has a shadow caused by a
falling leaf - it's not a hole or stain)
