Calico Sunshine & Shadow Vintage Quilt

From the
Elwyn Dearborn collection comes this Lancaster, PA Mennonite made
Calico Sunshine & Shadow Quilt. Probably made in the 1970's, the 2-3/4" squares
are machine pieced and made of complementing cotton blend calico fabrics varying
from light to dark in a radiating diamond pattern with a solid rust cotton blend
for the borders. Measuring a LARGE 108" x 84", it has a
thin poly batting, a hand applied binding, and a green striped and floral back.
HAND QUILTED with angle quilting across the face, and chain
quilting on the borders @ 9 neat and tiny stitching per inch. In clean
condition, we find no rips, tears, stains or odors, just a GRAPHIC
VINTAGE QUILT!!

Unique Star, Tumbling Block & Chain Antique Quilt with Zig Zag Borders

The maker of this 1860's quilt combined 3
patterns - Stars, Tumbling Blocks, and Chains and HAND PIECED
the quilt using Cheddar and overdyed green cotton printed fabrics for the
pieces, and solid bright white for the background, further embellishing the
quilt by adding a zig zag border in overdyed green. The quilt measures 88"
x 78", has a thin cotton batting with cotton seed fragments, a hand applied
binding, and bleached muslin for the back. HAND QUILTED
with outline quilting on the pieces, diamond quilting on the white background
blocks, and Chevron quilting on the border @ 10 neat and tiny stitches per inch
counting one side only. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we
found no rips, tears, stains or odors.

Antique Pineapple Log Cabin Quilt w/6,644 Pieces!

This HAND PIECED Pineapple version of a
Log Cabin quilt has
6,644 pieces and dates to the
1860's. Each 1/2" wide piece (6,120 of them!) is made of wool fabrics from
the makers scrap bag with 1/2" wide pieces (a total of 524) making a striped
border. The quilt reverses to a brown on cream cotton leaf patterned
fabric with 11-1/2" on the top and bottom in a brown & gold striped cotton.
The quilt measures 84" x 74" and has no batting. The binding is in a gold
colored wool, which was brought around to the back to make a 2 wide frame on the
back (see photo). Vertical stitch-in-the-ditch quilting along each block
holds the front to the back @ 6 stitches per inch. In "as found"
condition, we find a few pieces with moth damage (1% or less), but no rips,
tears, or stains. For a change of pace, you can reverse the quilt for an
entirely new look!

Antique Red White & Blue Diamond in Square/Bars Crib Quilt

This unusual
combination Diamond in Square and Bars crib quilt from the 1930's is machine
pieced using dark red, dark slate blue, and creamy white cotton fabrics.
The maker placed 3 pieced blocks on either red, cream or blue backgrounds giving
the quilt a bars look! She also used the same fabrics to create a striped
frame, and the red for the border. The back was made from old flour sacks.
The quilt measures 33" x 32", has no batting and a machine applied brighter red
binding. Machine quilted diamonds in the center of each block hold the
back to the front. In UNUSED, UNWASHED clean condition,
we see no rips, tears, stains or odors. UNUSUAL & GRAPHIC!!

Unique Honeycomb Antique Quilt

The way the maker
HAND PIECED this quilt, it's as if the
honeycombs are a poncho laid on a sheet! Each of the cotton scrap bag
prints in the honeycomb measure just 1-1/2" across, with lots of early copper
toned madder prints, shirting prints, cinnamon pinks, etc., and an autumn leaf
on a brown & blue plaid ground for the background. The quilt
measures 84" x 62", has a cotton batting and an unbleached muslin back.
The binding was made by bringing the border fabric around to the back and hand
stitching in place. HAND QUILTED
with running shell quilting over the
entire quilt @ 8 stitches per inch.
PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED,
we found no rips, tears or odors, just a couple of light spots on the back which
could have been there prior to being used in this quilt, and an old repair (darn
those bed springs!) 3-3/4" x 1-1/2" on the binding 6" from a corner (see
close-up photo). A CLEAN, EARLY,
SUPER GRAPHIC QUILT!

Barn Raising Log Cabin Antique Quilt

This Barn Raising Log
Cabin quilt began as a hand pieced top from the 1870's with cranberry and white
resist prints, cinnamon pink and red on cream prints, and solid forest green
cotton fabrics which still retain a sheen. It was finished sometime in the mid
20th century, with the finisher adding a white cotton back and hand applied
binding. It has no batting and measures 88" x 86". HAND QUILTED
with "stitch in the ditch" quilting @ 7 stitches per inch. In
UNUSED, UNWASHED condition, we found no rips, tears or odors,
but a few light storage spots - MAGNIFICENT!!!
Bright & Colorful Antique Peony Quilt

From the 1930's comes this HAND PIECED
Peony quilt, made with all cotton fabrics including bright coral pink
and Nile green for the peonys and bright white for the background, with all
three fabrics used in the deep border. The quilt also has HAND
APPLIQUED stems, measures 88" x 74", has a thin cotton batting, a light
pink hand applied binding, and a bright white back. HAND QUILTED
with outline quilting inside the peonys, square quilting on the
baskets, large feather wreaths and square quilting on the background, and double
rope quilting on the borders @ 8 to 10 neat and tiny stitches per inch counting
one side only. PROFESSIONALLY HAND LAUNDERED, we found no
rips, tears, stains or odors, just a CLEAN, CRISP, UNUSED QUILT!!
